At Diamond, we’ve started the year out on the right foot with the addition of another new Network Partner who will provide our expert fulfilment and delivery services to their local area. This month, we are joined by Youvir and his team, based in the important retail and market centre of Northampton. We caught up with Youvir to chat about his experience, goals for business growth and how he started out in the logistics industry.
What is your experience working in the logistics industry?
I’ve been working in the logistics industry for over 6 years now. I started out by acquiring a company that was going through the process of liquidation and would fold without an injection of cash. Along with my supportive team, we took on the company as a turnaround project and started providing services to Amazon. As time has gone on and we have gained more industry knowledge, we have taken on more diverse services and specialised clients.
Can you tell us about you and your team?
For the majority of our time, we have always promoted from within. Most of our operational management personnel started off as a driver as that was the core of the business when we set out. We did, however, just have to recruit a new warehouse manager, Christian Foley, specifically for our Diamond operation. He is extremely experienced, has already hit the ground running, and will teach us a lot. I always aspire to hire people who have a completely different skill set from myself or our existing team. It creates an environment and culture where everyone can learn from one another and where we all develop and grow together.
What advice would you give to a new Diamond Network Partner about the wider logistics services and what to expect?
Honestly, the hardest thing is finding the right person for the sales side of things. Having someone dedicated to your sales function is the most important starting block for your business and a good salesperson is hard to come by. We are very lucky to have found Christian who is in control of the operation side of things. A lot of energy goes into recruitment in the first 6-8 months and focusing on this will ensure ongoing success.
What do you love about your job?
I like being my own boss and having to wake up every morning and motivate myself. It is invigorating to know that I am responsible for a business and an entire team. I like that my mind races and that I’m thinking of 100 things to do, It’s exciting. I don’t set an alarm, my body clock wakes me up with thoughts and ideas for the day.
How did you connect with Diamond Logistics?
I first connected with Dan in 2017, when I found Diamond online whilst conducting some market research. I was bookmarking a lot of websites for ideas and Diamond stood out to me. Before I entered the logistics industry, I worked with a small F&B franchisee. I was put in a position where their operations manager and I were running the show. Working within a small organisation provided me with a lot of knowledge about running my own business. Franchises/Partnerships are appealing as the risk is shared whilst you’re also provided with the foundations of a business.
What are your goals for 2023?
My goals are to focus on launching our Diamond operation and surpass our revenue targets, by a long margin. I am bullish on the logistics industry as a whole so I am always looking for new opportunities within the industry.
How do you hope to expand your offering to clients now that you have partnered with Diamond?
The fact that we will now offer fulfilment and delivery services will allow us to support more businesses in our area as well as nationally and internationally. We will be able to offer our existing network same day and next day delivery more cost-effectively.
