The Diamond Girls Get Muddy for a Cause That Matters

The Diamond girls are officially go for Pretty Mudder – the mud-splattered, laughter-fuelled Race for Life event in support of Cancer Research UK. On Friday 19th July, four women from across the business will be swapping the warehouse and fulfilment centre for something a little messier. All in the name of charity, of course.

The idea came from Amber Kirkup, the youngest of the crew, who’s been with Diamond for a year now. She started in the warehouse but now juggles everything from pick-and-pack to client management like an absolute pro. “I thought it would be the kind of challenge some of the girls would be up for,” she said. “I love the gym – weights are my thing – but running is new to me, I liked the idea of trying something different as a team, especially for a cause close to our hearts.”

Joining Amber are three more brilliant women: Melissa Lawrence, Donna Young, and Kate Lester.

Melissa came on board just six months ago as part of the management team and is already making a big impact. Mum of three and nan to two, she hasn’t run competitively since her last Race for Life over 20 years ago. “I lost my brother to cancer, and both my parents have had it too,” she shared. “This challenge is part couch-to-5k, part therapy. I just hope I have fun, raise some money – and make it to the finish line in one piece!”

Next up is Donna Young, a key player in client services at our fulfilment centre. She’s been with us for two years and, as a single mum, has had to squeeze training around work and parenting. For Donna, this run is personal. “A friend’s child spent most of her life at Great Ormond Street battling cancer. Funding research is vital – and I’m happy to get stuck in, mud and all. Our fundraising is going well, but we can always do more!”

Finally, joining the line-up is Diamond’s founder and all-round force of nature, Kate Lester. No stranger to a challenge, Kate’s fundraising résumé includes marathons, mountain climbs and trekking to Everest Base Camp. “My mum is just finishing treatment for breast cancer,” Kate said. “My dad’s had it too. So this one’s close to home. And doing it with the gals – instead of my usual solo suffering – makes it even better. I’m pretty sure the rest of the team will be there to cheer us on. Or just to laugh at us getting caked in mud!”
