Diamond Logistics, based in the Henley Business Park, Guildford celebrated its 30th anniversary in March, having been based in Guildford for the last 30 years.
Former winners of the Toast of Surrey Best Business Award (in the sub £5m category) it has grown since then and is now a nationwide business with 30 sites from Plymouth to Glasgow.
The business has changed exponentially since the beginning back in March 1992 – trading originally as Diamond Despatch from Woodbridge Road.
With one motorbike, one D reg Astra van and one major client in Same Day courier, it was a very different entity to what it has become.
Kate comments, “To say that the business has changed somewhat is a huge underestimate! From simply point A to point B deliveries to a multi-site eCommerce fulfilment function with same day and overnight available from over 30 sites around the UK – plus a technology platform, Despatchlab, to facilitate all of this – to say we have moved with the times is being quite modest!”
With 50% of their revenue now coming from eCommerce this transition from Same Day courier to Fulfilment and delivery has been paramount.
Kate continues, “In 2011 I read the ‘4 Hour Working Week’ by Tim Ferris and upon reading that knew that there was opportunity for us to provide an outsource solution to entrepreneurs who wanted to outsource their logistics. Once we perfected that we shared that knowledge with others – which is why we have 28 logistics partners UK wide. The aim is not just to provide ace Same Day courier, Fulfilment and Overnight and International delivery to Surrey based businesses, but to enable all SMEs in the UK to get the kind of personalised quality of service that they get from Diamond Guildford wherever they are in the UK’.
