Kate attended the Women in News Event at ITV last night – an event to celebrate and highlight ITV News commitment to gender parity in the news – both in terms of News reader, leadership, technical team and reporting but also in terms of theexperts called upon to comment on news stories.

Rachel Corp, Acting News Editor highlighted the statistics – broadly speaking ITV has achieved gender parity all roles including leadership and technical.
The event was primarily hosted by Julie Etchingham who spoke about actively pursuing female expertise and comment – whether as, ‘experts, commentators or protagonists’.
ITV host Confidence on Camera Workshops at all their regional hubs and invite any woman with a voice to step forward and take advantage of this demystifying process. There is considerable focus not just on women, but also enduring adequate BAME representation to ensure what we see on our screens reflect the society in which we live
The event welcomed women from the third sector, education, finance, healthcare, sport and commerce from all regions of the UK – with live feeds from the ITN studios in Manchester and Cardiff.
Kate reiterates, ‘Having attended a workshop myself it was a really interesting insight at the process of news gathering, the technical aspects behind the creation of the news, the studio set up and a practice in a live environment. It certainly reassured me that as long as you have an opinion you should and could make an effort to speak. We have a voice, and we should use it – not only for ourselves but to encourage other women to step forward’.
