This short video explains whether same day courier delivery always means delivery on the same calendar day, and how collection time, journey distance and urgency affect what is possible.

Does same day actually mean same day?

Not necessarily. It depends on the time you make the booking and, of course, how far the delivery needs to travel.

It is going to take as long as the journey effectively takes. The main point is that it is being delivered from point A to point B. There might be additional drops in between, but it is still a dedicated vehicle.

There are all sorts of examples where this matters. We have had clients working on a tender until really late at night who phone us at eight or ten o’clock from Guildford, for example, because it needs to be in Edinburgh the very next morning.

That would be outside the usual parameters of an overnight carrier or an international carrier’s collection service. So the same day element gives you flexibility around collection and delivery time.

Exactly. We also have clients who might book, for argument’s sake, 20 drops in central London for one vehicle. They are booking same day because they are getting that one vehicle to carry out all of those drops on the same day.

When we talk about same day, what are the best examples of why it would be a really good service? From personal experience, Diamond has delivered blood transfusions when I actually needed one, which was pretty cool. There is also equipment and supplies for operating theatres. What other kinds of things are common?

Tenders, testing samples, and anything where you need that element of control. There are all sorts of weird and wonderful things we have transported using same day delivery, from fuel samples to testing labs, to Covid samples during the fight against the pandemic.

If the cost of the goods not getting there in a timely fashion means you cannot take the risk, then you need to book the same day service.

So, we keep saying this, but if it is urgent and important, book a same day courier.
