IDW specialists, Tuffnells, have gone into administration. IDW freight has long been an ugly service provision to the end user. And it’s not easy to find a solution for it. But if you have a mixed freight profile with requirements that include boxes, consignment, parcels, pallets and IDW then diamond may well be able to help your business.
Awkward comes at a cost
Tuffnells’ liquidation highlights once again, the issues around the distribution of awkward freight in the UK. The great parcel and consignment carriers do not have the facilities to transport Irregular dimension & weight fright around the UK. And yet there is a proper need. There are years of infrastructure and experience that go behind a well delivered IDW orders. And despite the complexity, the perception is that IDW fright needs to be delivered very cheaply and still very quickly.
It’s my firm belief that you can have two out of the following
- fast **
- cheap
- good**
Good and Fast Delivery
We at diamond focus strongly on the fast and good. The performance statistics of other IDW carriers can be difficult to align with the our selected carrier partners such as Yodel, DPD and DHL who provide excellent service. And I do think an issue is the low cost perceived by customers of what is reasonable to pay. The cost of supporting IDW is substantial and I believe the one of inherent issues behind Tuffnells going into administration may well be that they simply couldn’t charge enough to get the freight delivered.
